Little scientists, do you know what color you get when you mix red and blue? How about red and yellow? Let’s experiment!
Items needed:
red, blue, and yellow food coloring
empty ice cube tray
water
permanent marker
three clear plastic cups
Put water in six spaces of the ice cube tray. Add yellow food coloring to two spaces, blue food coloring to two, and red food coloring to two. Put in the freezer to freeze. After the cubes are frozen, place a red cube and blue cube in one cup, a red and yellow in a second cup, and a yellow and blue in the third cup. Using the marker, write on each cup what colors are in it. Set the cups out in the sun. After a while, the ice begins to melt. Then you can discover what color each of the combined ice cubes makes! It is fun to dump a little of the colored water onto a white sheet of paper to see the true color. Enjoy!
