Do you clean your house and then before nightfall, the clutter has returned? It happens to all of us. A fun solution may be to invite Chester to your house. “Chester” made his appearance at our home many years ago. I can’t recall exactly where this idea came from, but here it is:
You get a laundry basket and have your family name it. Obviously, ours is named Chester. Then each night before bed, you remind your kids that they better not leave anything on the floor because “Chester” is coming. Chester picks ups toys and clothes that get left out. If you want a toy that Chester claimed you have to do a job to get it back…if it seems to be a consistent problem, Chester might keep your stuff for a few days before you can get it back through work.
It had been awhile since Chester visited our home. Last night, bedrooms seemed a bit out of control. I told my kids that Chester was coming…And low and behold, this morning there is nothing for him to pick up.
I am sure that a psychologist would say that by having Chester pick up the toys the blame gets placed on “him” and not on you as a parent…. But whatever the case, the clutter leaves for a few minutes at least!
