I came across an article in Newsweek about how the Chinese New Year got its beginning– Who is Nian? The Mythical Beast that Ate Children and Started Chinese New Year. Reading the article was all it took for me to find a red table cloth, a dragon, a lantern, and a smile. We are definitely having Chinese food and telling the story of Nian on Chinese New Year. Maybe we have some sparklers. Oh, it might be fun to make a paper lantern. Well whatever we come up with, it will make the day more fulfilling. “Minds opened to new ideas never go back to their original dimensions!” It is intriguing to take a look at the cultures all over the world!
“Gao Nian!”
(On a different note..the story of Nian has some similarities to the Passover. An interesting thing to ponder and point out to my kids.)
