The idea for this activity was initiated when my two youngest kids and I had to drive an hour away to drop off one of my older kids. To make the return trip more fun, we decided to try out the playgrounds in each of the small towns we were passing through. We took mental notes of the most fun slides, swings, and equipment. It was exciting to discover the different aspects of each playground. The same activity could be completed within a single town.
“Playground Hop!” is simple; go to playground after playground for short periods of time. Whether the playgrounds are in multiple towns or within the same one, it makes for an exhilarating adventure for elementary age children! Pack up some water, a couple snacks, and your kids, and then off you go.
We currently live in a city with about 9,000 people. I can think of eight playgrounds in the city. And if you go to the two other closest towns, they each have two playgrounds. Twelve playgrounds are within 15 minutes of our home! When we lived in a town of 600 people, there were two playgrounds in the town and four others within 10 minutes.
My kids had a great time “playground hopping,” and there is no admission fee to a playground! Those are two great bonuses in my book.
