Make dinner special and even a bit funny just by changing the place setting…here is how it works: Make dinner as usual except don’t put the utensils on the table. Get a box or a bin and fill it with all sorts of spoons, spatulas, measuring spoons, ice cream scoops ladles, tongs, etc. Let each person at the table reach into the box held above his/her eye level and draw out a utensil to eat with. We actually go around three or four times so everyone has a plethora of items to use. Our only rule: “You must at least try to eat with every utensil you draw out.”
The kids love this fun tradition. We have done it long enough that when my husband senses it is “Silverware Swap” night he sneakily goes to the silverware drawer and slips a regular fork into his shirt pocket. The rest of us just smile and shake our heads.
